UPS has announced plans to temporarily close its Swan Island facility in Portland, Oregon, starting July 1, 2025, to implement automation upgrades.
This closure is expected to impact the Swan Island employees, including those classified under the 22.3 Full-Time Inside Employee designation. This means WE will be affected by these changes.
Key points of concern and proposed actions for 22.3 employees include:
Union Meeting on February 2nd: Our General Union Meeting is scheduled for 10:00 AM, followed by a session focused on UPS employees. It's suggested that 22.3 employees arrive at 9:45 AM and enter together to present a unified front.
Communication Platform: We have started a Substack newsletter has been established to disseminate verified information, counteract rumors, and facilitate communication between employees and union representatives. It is highly recommended that you subscribe to this in order to have access to the latest news and to contribute YOUR VOICE to the discussion.
As more official information becomes available, this Sub Stack will be updated. Be sure to subscribe and follow this sub to stay in the loop, recieve meeting reminders and participate in the chat channels with your fellow 22.3s!
These points aim to safeguard the interests of 22.3 employees during the facility's closure and subsequent automation remodel.
Subscribers, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share this substack with as many 22.3s as possible, we are only a week away from the General Meeting!
Every full-timer I've spoken to has committed to going. NOT showing up for this meeting is a great way to show how much you care about your job, and if enough of us DON'T show up, it could be used against us when it comes to any lack of negotiating for those jobs. We must show that we care, ask questions, ensure that our seniority means something, and demand to be fought for.
